๐ Accounts, sign-in & notifications
Sign in with a magic link, fill in your profile, and choose how the platform reaches you.
๐ Signing in with a magic link
There is no sign-up step. Go to /signin, type your email address, and press Email me a sign-in link. Open the email, tap the link, and you're in โ the page you were trying to reach loads straight away.
- Enter your email address on the sign-in page.
- Watch for โ๏ธ Check your email โ we sent you a sign-in link on screen.
- Open the email and tap the link. It signs you in on that device, so use the phone or laptop you actually want to be signed in on.
Prefer a password? Open Use a password instead under the email form. Passwords are optional โ the magic link is the primary route, and most people never set one.
๐ชช One account, every event
Your account is tied to your email address and spans the whole platform: the same sign-in works for every DG Events event you attend, past and future. Your profile, though, is per event โ a fresh name badge for each one, so you can introduce yourself differently at a technical conference than at a family-history weekend.
๐ Filling in your profile
Open ๐ My Portal from the event nav (/{event}/portal) and scroll to Profile. Press Save profile when you're done.
| Field | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Display name | How you appear in the People directory, on questions you ask, and on the leaderboard. |
| Title | Your job title or role โ shown under your name. |
| Company / org | Where you're from. Handy for the people trying to find you. |
| Photo URL | A link to a picture of you. Paste the address of an image already hosted somewhere โ there's no file upload here. |
| Mobile number for SMS updates | Optional. Only used if the organizers send text alerts, and only if they have texting configured. Include the country code, e.g. +1 555 123 4567. |
| Bio | A few sentences about you. For speakers this is what the public speaker page shows. |
๐ Notifications
On an event's landing page, next to ๐ Get tickets, there's a ๐ Enable notifications button. Press it, allow the browser prompt, and the platform can push announcements to your device โ schedule changes, "your session starts in 10 minutes", that kind of thing. Once it's on, the button is replaced by ๐ Notifications on.
Three kinds of message can reach you, depending on what the organizers set up:
| โ๏ธ Email | Always on โ tickets, receipts, approvals and campaign emails come this way. |
|---|---|
| ๐ฒ SMS | Only if you've added a mobile number and the organizers have texting enabled for the event. |
| ๐ Push | Only after you press Enable notifications on that event's page. |
๐ฑ Installing it as an app
DG Events is a progressive web app, so you can add it to your home screen and run it like a native app โ full screen, its own icon, no browser chrome.
- iPhone / iPad: open the site in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
- Android: open the site in Chrome, then Install app (or Add to Home screen) from the โฎ menu.
- Desktop: Chrome and Edge show an install icon in the address bar.
Installing is also what makes push notifications reliable on iOS, and it keeps previously-loaded pages available when the venue wifi gives up.
